Growing up in South Africa, she was exposed to orphanages and other children in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She has always been honest with her partners that adoption was how she planned to start her family. \u201cThis was definitely not a second option for me. It was always my first,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n When she started the adoption process, she \u201ccast a very wide net,\u201d as she believed the child she was meant to mother would find their way to her. The actress filed in every country that allowed a single person to adopt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Her babies were born in the United States, and they both happened to be African American.
