This Impressive Riverside Log Home Is an Indoor & Outdoor Paradise
If you are looking for the perfect fishing vacation getaway, the Watauga River Lodge located on the trophy section of the Watauga known to produce gargantuan browns, football-shaped bows, and bug chugging brookies is just the place. Even if you aren’t a fisherman the river lodge is a beautiful place to stay. For the fishermen in the family, you can break in your equipment or let the expert guides provide you with everything you’ll need to tame these trout. The river lodge is tucked neatly into a grove of hardwoods, two new log structures comprise the first phase of construction and hearken back to the historical cabin dating to 1827 renovated on-premises. The larger structure is divided into 3 rooms each with separate entry, 2 pillowtop queen beds, and independent bathrooms. The second cabin building adds privacy and the luxury of a kitchenette for anglers wanting to maximize time on the water. The following are the other cabin options on the property.
Range Cabin. The original cabin building was built in 1861 and underwent an addition and remodel in the early 80s. The owners have done extensive remodeling and restoration. This wood cabin has two bedrooms, one with two pillow-top queens and one with a custom log double bunk bed. There are also two full baths, a living room, and a gourmet kitchen. It sleeps four comfortably.
Main Cabin. The main cabin building has 3 suite rooms under one roof. They share a common full-length front porch that overlooks the river and has individual back entry doors. Each room has two pillow-top queens, a full bath, and a sitting area.
Tom’s Cabin. This is a stand-alone one-bedroom cabin building. It has a full bath with a cutoff stone shower, a full kitchen, two pillow-top queens, and a screened porch with a stone gas log fireplace. It also has a full-length front porch overlooking the river.
The BBQ Shack. This cabin structure was previously a little fish camp shelter. It sits right on the river. The owners added a covered front deck and turned it into an outdoor kitchen with a refrigerator, convection oven, and large stainless gas grill. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and serving meals. With a fire pit out front, it is the favored evening spot on the river.
The Watauga River, located in eastern Tennessee, is regarded as one of the best trout fishing destinations in the South. Supporting over 2000 fish per mile, it seems fitting that the Cherokee translation for Watauga is a river of plenty. This 16-mile tailwater receives daily releases of cold water from Wilbur dam creating an optimum environment for aquatic insect life and year-round angling. The river is home to a variety of wildlife and is flanked by towering bluffs and pictorial farms.
